When a new building development is being constructed, there will be many different people who will work on the project. An imperative part of the process is the electrical contractor. So what does an electrical contractor do?

An electrical contractor handles everything to do with the electricity in the building. Every appliance that is used, every light that is switched on, and absolutely everything else utilising electricity on the premises will be put in working order by the electrical contractor. The electrical contractor is on site before the foundations are even being built. The electrician needs to work with the blueprint of the building. They have to see the future plans for the structure so that they can determine where all the electrical wiring will be placed. Most electrical wiring will be put in the walls and the ceiling of the building. Once the electrician has determined where the wiring will be placed in the building, they then have to map out where the plug sockets, light switches and geysers will be placed.

The electrical contractor will fit in all the light fittings, the plug sockets and other power outlets. Depending on their speciality, they could do the wiring of the air condition and heating systems. Furthermore, they will connect the wiring for the intercoms, alarm systems and any other security wiring. There may be more than one electrical contracting company on site for the building of a new development. This is because certain electricians will only work with certain types of electrical wiring.

Once all the wiring has been put into place, the electrical contractor will usually test all the electrical outlets in the building. They will make sure there are no faults, and that there is no interference with the electrical wiring against other utilities in the building, such as the water system and so forth.

It is easy to see why electrical contractors are an integral part of the construction process.
