Van Gogh and other famous artists held a special place in their hearts for the color yellow. Yellow is vibrant and warm and gives the viewer a sense of happier times. Yellow is a primary color with violet as its complementary color. This means the two colors go extremely well together. The color of cherry flowers and of course the sun is yellow. A hint of yellow in a room will help to bring it brightness, happiness and warmth. When it comes to your paintings the same thing applies.

Yellow helps to bring out feelings:

There is a spiritual and psychological meaning each viewer assigns to different colors. Yellow is one of the warm colors that create the same feelings as being in sunlight. It creates cheerfulness or happiness and warmth that touch the soul. There is no other spiritual color that brings more joy than yellow according to the scripture, it is mentioned many times. Directly connected to sunlight, yellow is warm and calms most everyone when they come into contact with it. Another association people have with yellow is it is a rich color representing gold.

Both men and women enjoy yellow:

Colors do not seem to have the same gender distinctions that they once held but the color yellow has always been enjoyed by both genders. If you are having a child and do not know the gender, painting the nursery in a pale yellow will be a perfect environment for either a boy or a girl. Even though yellow looks dashing on a painting you will not catch many woman wearing it as it clashes with lots of skin tones.  

What constitutes the yellow part of yellow paint?

Ochre and other natural colors found in the earth make up yellow. Coming from Cobalt, Potassium and Cadmium and other Copper components paints of today vary widely. Cadmium not only comes in light yellow but also comes in yellow. Many yellow paints are available in oils like Hansa Yellow, Azo Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Naples Yellow, Yellow Ochre and really many more.

Mixing yellow:

It is always better to start mixing colors from light then gradually get darker. Darkening a color is easier than making a color lighter. Secondary and triad colors are made with the use of yellow because it is a primary color. It does not matter what color yellow is mixed with it always adds a warmness to it.

Brown and yellow make gold all you have to do is add a dot of brown to some yellow. To get a fruit color just add a dot of grey to yellow it will make a great green and add a dot or red to make a wonderful orange color. Adding small amounts of color at a time is the key to successfully mixing paints. Paint that dries in oil especially will appear slightly lighter once it dries on your canvas.
